Slim in 6, created by Beachbody® and Debbie Siebers, is a 6-week program designed to help you lose weight rapidly and give you a slimmer, healthier body. But the question is does it really work?
If you have ever seen promotional footage of Slim in 6, you see men and women doing easy looking exercises with smiles on their faces and sweat glistening their foreheads. Then you see the before and after photos and hear their testimonials of how simple and effective the workout program has been. It isn’t until you get the program in your DVD player that you realize how hard it really is.
Slim in 6 Program
Slim in 6 has three main workouts and two bonus workouts in the program.
Phase 1: Start It Up!
Start It Up is the basics DVD that helps you ease into the program. At 24 minutes and 49 seconds, you are introduced to several of the regular exercises that you will be performing for the rest of the program. This is strictly a start up exercise that does not make you over-do it, but will definitely get your heart pumping, especially if you are not used to exercising. Exercises you will see are pliés, lunges, standing side crunches, squats, push-ups, floor crunches, along with a warm-up routine at the beginning and a stretch and yoga routine at the end of the exercise. No real equipment is needed except a yoga mat, towel, and water. This DVD you will do for a couple days to one week before moving on to Phase 2.
Phase 2: Ramp It Up!
Ramp It Up! is exactly what it says. It’s a ramp up of the previous exercise. At 47 minutes and 53 seconds, you not only increase time, but exercises. You will see most of the same exercises as the first DVD but now you have two midsection routines instead of one, squats with leg lifts, side kicks, and you get to use the resistance bands that come with your program. Additional exercises are leg exercises performed on all fours, more ab exercises like double crunches and bicycle, and push-ups. Warm-up and stretch and yoga are also a part of this exercise. Equipment needed is resistance bands, towel, yoga mat, and water. This exercise is performed for the rest of week 1 (that is if you choose to do only a couple days on Start It Up!) and for all of week 2.
Phase 3: Burn It Up!
Burn It Up! is one kick butt workout, so get ready. At 59 minutes and 5 seconds, you add an additional 12 minutes to your workout and tons of extra reps to the exercises. Most exercises are the same and the two midsection routines will really get your heart pumping and will start melting that belly. The first couple of days on this exercise is really intense and tiring. You continue to work with the resistance bands and do a longer leg routine that will really transform your hind end. Both warm-up and stretch and yoga are a part of this routine. Equipment needed is resistance bands, yoga mat, towel, and water. This exercise is performed for weeks 3-6.
Slim & 6 Pack
Slim & 6 Pack is an extensive ab routine that will give you extra help in your midsection. This is a bonus DVD so you are not required to do it for the 6 week program but it is encouraged to do it as much as you want. A yoga mat is all you need.
Slim & Limber
Slim & Limber is a full body stretching routine. This is encouraged to do as often as possible. It helps your body to recover faster after workouts and gives you the flexibility you need to really get into the program.
Slim in 6 Review
I purchased Slim in 6 several years ago and it sat in a box in my basement for most of that time after one failed attempt to follow the program. This summer I finally broke down and gave it another try. Not being a very motivated person, I was worried I would start it but not finish it.
Well, I did it! I completed the program without missing a single day and I was very pleased with the results. By the time I finished, I swore I would never look at Debbie Siebers’ face again because I hated her. She kicked my butt for 6 weeks. But when I was able to put on a pair of jeans that were given to me for Christmas ’10 that I couldn’t even get my thigh into (there was no way they would go over my butt), I was sold on trying out the Slim Series as a follow-up program.
Slim in 6 was very hard work and the calendar chart that came with the program really helped me to keep track of my work out and it helped to motivate me to keep going at it every day. Each day I counted down the days to the end and I kept saying “you can do it, just one more day, you can do it!” I was so proud of myself for my accomplishment because I have never been able to stick with something like this before.
I lost around 30 lbs. and about 3 inches in my waist in that first 6 weeks. I did not follow the diet plan, just cut back on my portions, and I did not take the supplements. This was just exercise and watching what I ate. Overall, it did what I had expected it to do. You do not get the before and after results like they show on TV, at least not the way I did it, but you get great results for a 6 week period. I am continuing working towards my goals and thanks to Debbie Siebers and Beachbody, I am 30 lbs. closer.
Note: Just to be sure there is no confusion, I purchased this several years ago and I believe there is a chance that the program has changed a little or at least has been updated. When I purchased it, it came with the main Slim in 6 program, three different level resistance bands, program guide, tracking calendar, 6 day express diet plan, and 6 additional DVDs for the follow-up Slim Series for after the program.
